Plumbing in Old Torrance

Old Torrance is the city’s original historic street grid, home to some of the oldest housing stock in the city — vintage bungalows and early-20th-century construction that predate the massive 1948–1965 postwar expansion seen in most of the rest of Torrance.

Because these homes are older than the citywide average, original plumbing — including early copper, galvanized steel, and in some cases pre-modern sewer lateral materials like Orangeburg pipe — is more likely here than almost anywhere else in the city. That makes both slab leaks and sewer lateral issues more common in Old Torrance specifically.
